Epazote
Epazote is an aromatic herb native to Central America, South America, and southern Mexico. It is widely used in traditional Latin American cuisine, particularly in bean dishes, due to its ability to impart a distinct, savory flavor and reduce flatulence caused by beans. The plant features jagged, lance-shaped green leaves and produces small, inconspicuous green flowers followed by numerous tiny seeds. While valued for its culinary and medicinal properties, epazote contains essential oils like ascaridole, which can be toxic in large quantities. Therefore, it should be consumed in moderation and avoided during pregnancy. It thrives in warm climates, prefers full sun, and adapts well to various well-draining soil types.
